Topic: Early Childhood Indicators of Latent Print Disability
Description: In this training I will discuss early indicators of possible print disabilities that families may encounter as students begin reading. This training is not a diagnostic tool, but a guideline to help families/teachers/caregivers be aware of potential problems, and to begin preparing with early interventions if problems do present.

Topic: Tools to Support Students who Struggle with Math
Description: This session examines FREE (and very low cost) tools and strategies that support student access to the curriculum. Learn about virtual manipulatives, talking calculators, and other items to support students as they access the mathematics curriculum. The focus of this webinar is on students with special needs but these tools support ALL students in the classroom.

Topic: PODD Overview
Description: Pragmatic Organization Dynamic Display (PODD) is a means of selecting and organizing picture symbols in a book format so that people with complex communication needs and their communication partners can communicate more easily. The aim of a PODD is to provide vocabulary for continuous communication all the time, for a range of messages, across a range of topics in multiple environments. Join us for an overview of this low-tech communication strategy for students with disabilities. This strategy supports students with disabilities of all ages.

Topic: District-Wide AT Planning: A View From 40,000 Feet
Description: Assistive technology (AT) supports have traditionally been considered on a case-by-case basis within the scope of a student’s IEP. It is necessary to consider and assess the need for AT individually for appropriate alignment of student needs, environment and tasks with AT features and supports. Unfortunately, this linear approach has not worked well for the actual implementation phase of the AT process in school settings resulting in long delays between AT identification and acquisition. This OCALI webinar will discuss a comprehensive system of planning for AT implementation that allows students quicker access to needed AT through a tiered model of district-wide AT supports. This webinar is appropriate for administrators, AT specialists, classroom teachers, related services providers and others interested in the “big picture” implementation of AT services within their district.

Topic: Mobile App Support for UDL
Description: This session provides an opportunity to examine the tools (iPod – iPad) used for providing learning opportunities to students. With consideration of learning styles, multiple intelligences, and other individual differences, the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework should be considered for all instructional design to meet the needs of all learners. The principles of UDL include multiple means of representation, expression, and engagement. Participants will explore the origins of UDL, come to understand why it should be considered and explore readily available apps that support good instructional design and delivery.

Topic: What Teachers & Students Need in a UDL Environment
Description: Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is the design of instruction for all student use, without need for adaptation or specialized design. Teachers designing UDL classrooms should consider products and environments with a variety of characteristics that enhance all students' learning. UDL promotes a strong, yet flexible, foundation to meet a broader range of diverse abilities, disabilities, ethnicities, language skills and learning styles. In this session participants will see what is needed to support UDL at the teacher and student level.

Topic: No Fences in the Trenches: Creating a “Barrier Free” UDL Environment
Description: Yes, there’s no “fatty in the patty in this session! We are going to review how to remove barriers from the curriculum and environment that will enable each student to access, participate, and make progress in the general education curriculum. When implemented, the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) will be ideally suited to support true access, participation, and progress in the general curriculum for students with disabilities, and indeed, to improve the learning opportunities for all students.
